MERRIMACK IN THE NCAA'S:
The Warriors are making their second NCAA appearance and
second in as many years. Last year, they lost to top-seed and
regional champion Dowling 3-1.
CINDRIC, KUNCAITIS ALL-CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM
HONOREES
Sophomore Molly Cindric and senior co-captain Ale Kuncaitis were
named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference first team. Cindric, last
year’s Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year and now a two-time
first-team honoree, was a three-time Northeast-10 Player of the
Week and leads the Warriors in kills (356), kills per game
(3.39), and blocks (63). Kuncaitis is second on the team with 388
digs and 292 kills.
PACIS REPEATS AS COACH OF THE YEAR
Joey Pacis, in his sixth year as Merrimack’s head coach,
guided the Warriors to their second-straight NCAA Tournament
appearance while earning his second straight Northeast-10 Coach of
the Year award.
WARRIORS AGAINST THE FIELD
The Warriors are 2-6 against the seven other teams in the east
region.
#1: New Haven: (0-2): UNH defeated Merrimack 3-1 (25-27, 21-25,
25-17, 23-25) at the Volpe Gym and 3-2 (25-18, 13-25, 25-19, 23-25,
10-15) in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Merrimack is
13-2 in its last 15 matches, with the lone losses coming to the
Chargers.
#2 Dowling: (0-1): Dowling defeated Merrimack 3-2 (13-25,
15-25, 25-21,25-23, 13-15) at the Volpe Gym on September 26.
#3: Bentley (2-0): The Warriors swept Bentley, winning 3-0 (25-15,
25-20, 25-23) at the Volpe Gym and 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-22) in the
Northeast-10 Semifinals.
#4: Georgian Court (0-1): Georgian Court edged Merrimack 3-2
(25-22, 25-27, 21-25, 25-17, 13-15) on September 12 at Lowell.
#6: Bridgeport (0-1): At Waltham, Bridgeport beat the Warriors 3-1
(17-25, 25-22, 21-25, 26-28).
#7: Adelphi: Did not play.
#8: Queens: (0-1): At Waltham, Queens edged Merrimack 3-1 (25-27,
19-25, 25-22, 21-25).
20-WIN PLATEAU
Merrimack has won 20 games in a season for the first time in school
history, surpassing the school record of 19 set in 2007.
UNBEATEN ON THE ROAD
The Warriors are 11-0 in away matches this season (3-6 in neutral
court matches).
NEARLY UNBEATEN IN CONFERENCE
Merrimack won its first 11 games in the Northeast-10 for the first
time in school history. They finished 13-1, losing to only New
Haven. They were 11-3 in 2007, losing to Bryant, Southern New
Hampshire and Bentley.
LORENZ, PICKERT ALSO EARN ALL-CONFERENCE
HONORS
Sophomore Elyse Lorenz was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference
second team, while her classmate, libero Alyssa Pickert was a
third-team selection. Lorenz is second in the NE-10 in assists and
fifth in aces, while Pickert, a three-time NE-10 Libero of the
Week, leads the conference in digs.
PERFECT OCTOBER
The Warriors posted a 9-0 record in October, finishing undefeated
in a month for the first time in school history.
NORTHEAST-10 TOURNAMENT RECAP
Merrimack advanced to the Northeast-10 Championship for the second
straight season before losing to New Haven 3-2. The Warriors
actually led 2-1 and 18-12 in the fourth, but the Chargers rallied
for the win. They defeated Lowell 3-0 in the quarterfinals and
Bentley 3-0 in the semifinals. Ale Kuncaitis was named to
Northeast-10 All-Tournament Team.
