Volleyball Ready for Northeast-10 Conference Tournament

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Merrimack’s women’s volleyball team opens the Northeast-10 Tournament Friday night against UMass Lowell at 7:30 p.m. at Pace University.

The Warriors (18-8, 13-1) earned the second seed in the conference tournament while the River Hawks (15-16, 7-7) will be the seventh seed.

After dropping its first conference game of the season to New Haven last Tuesday, Merrimack rebounded with wins over St. Rose and Le Moyne in upstate New York. Libero Alyssa Pickert (Tinley Park, IL) led the way earning Libero of the Week honors in the Northeast-10 last week.

The Warriors beat the River Hawks 3-2 in their only meeting during the regular season. The tiebreaking game in that contest resulted in a 15-12 win for Merrimack, possibly foreshadowing another tight matchup on Friday.

If the Warriors win in the preliminary round, they will play the winner of third-seed Bentley and sixth-ranked Franklin Pierce Saturday afternoon, with the conference championship slated for Saturday night. Merrimack swept their two regular season games with Franklin Pierce and blanked the Falcons, 3-0, in their only matchup of the season.

Following the conference tournament, the Warriors will await the NCAA Selection Show at 8 p.m. on Sunday at www.ncaa.com to see if they will be selected to their second straight NCAA Tournament. Merrimack is ranked fifth in the latest regional rankings. The top eight teams in the East region will be selected.
