
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack College volleyball team
improved to 11-0 in the Northeast-10 with a 3-1 win over Stonehill
College Saturday afternoon Senior Day at the Volpe Gym.
Game scores were 25-22, 25-15, 24-26, 25-23.
Senior Ale Kuncaitis led the way with a
double-double on 17 digs and 10 kills, while adding two service
aces. Molly Cindric tallied 16 digs, 11 kills, four assists and
four block assists. Lisa Barr had a team-high 12
kills and added seven digs and three block assists, while
Megan Murray tallied 10 kills and four digs and
hit .455. Setter Elyse Lorenz picked up 39
assists, 12 digs and four kills.
The Warriors jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, capped off with a
25-15 second set win. The Skyhawks wouldn’t quit as they
rallied for a 26-24 third set win. The fourth set was tied at 23
but the Warriors rallied for two late points, led by Kuncaitis and
Murray.
Katherine Masson led the Skyhawks with 20 kills, while Michelle
Thornhill added 13 kills and 17 digs.
The win extends Merrimack’s school record of 11 straight
conference wins. Merrimack (16-7, 11-0 NE-10) will play New Haven
on November 4 at the Volpe Gym in a matchup of the only unbeaten
teams in the conference.
Before the game, the Warriors honored its senior class of 2009,
Jamie Doerrier, Ali Martin, Kristin Applegate, and
Kuncaitis.
