Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches to Open Season
SEASIDE, CA - The Merrimack volleyball team opened the 2008 season with a pair of losses Friday to Wayne State and Humboldt State at the Otter Classic hosted by CSU Monterey Bay.
The Warriors lost to Wayne State 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) and to Humboldt State 3-1 (15-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18).
In the Wayne State match, last year's Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, CA) led Merrimack with 10 kills to go with seven digs. Co-captain Ale Kuncaitis (Canton, MA) tallied a team-high 10 digs. Elyse Lorenz (Frankfort, IL) notched 22 assists. The Warriors posted just 26 kills while committing 21 errors and had an attack percentage of just .046.
In the second match of the day, the Warriors came out flying, taking the first set 25-15 behind a 12-2 run. Cindric posted her first double-double of the season on 14 kills and 13 digs. Alyssa Pickert (Tinley Park, IL) added a team-high 19 digs, while Lorenz totaled 34 assists and one ace.
The Warriors (0-2) take on North Dakota at 6:30 p.m. and CSU Monterey Bay at 11 p.m. on Saturday.
