Volleyball Wins Final Three Games to Defeat Le Moyne 3-2
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women’s volleyball
team, ranked third in the Northeast-10 Conference and eighth in the
Northeast region, stormed back from two games down to defeat Le
Moyne College 3-2 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in the Volpe
Gym.
Merrimack won the final three sets, including 15-13 in the
tie-breaking fifth game.
The Dolphins edged Merrimack 30-27 in the first two games, but the
Warriors stormed back winning the third game big 30-18.
In the fourth game with the Warriors leading 19-18, they caught
fire, scoring six of the next eight points thanks to solid hitting
and forced the fifth game.
The Warriors started strongly in the fifth game, behind numerous
kills from Molly Cindric and solid defense from Alyssa Pickert
leading 6-2 and 11-6, but the Dolphins did not quit as they tied it
at 13. Behind kills from Lisa Barr and Kristin Applegate, the
Warriors finished the game off and escaped with the 3-2
victory.
Barr posted a team-high 21 kills and hit .375, while Cindric (16
kills, 15 digs) and Ale Kuncaitis (15 kills, 15 digs)earned
double-doubles. Elyse Lorenz was solid from the setter position,
earning 55 assists and serving a game-best seven aces.
Before the match, senior Kim Faust and Rose Hogdson were honored as
part of Senior Day for the class of 2008.
The Warriors (12-10, 8-2 NE-10) host Saint Anselm Tuesday at the
Volpe Gym at 7 p.m.
