Womens Tennis Makes NCAA Tournament Debut Thursday at Stonehill

EASTON, MA – The Merrimack women’s tennis team will
make its first NCAA Tournament appearance on Thursday when it
battles host and second-ranked Stonehill at 11 a.m.
The Warriors earned the seventh seed in the east region after
finishing in fifth place in the Northeast-10 with a 10-7 overall
record, 9-3 in the Northeast-10.
The winner of Thursday’s match will battle the winner of #6
Saint Michael’s and #3 Queens on Friday in the second round
at Stonehill.
The other half of the east region, hosted by Bentley, matches
Concordia (NY) with Philadelphia and Bentley with Southern New
Hampshire.
Five Warriors were named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team
last Sunday, including Christina Lucin (Wesley Chapel,
FL), who was named to the second-team singles in the #2
position and first team doubles in the #2 slot. Lucin was 12-3 in
#2 singles this season and teamed with Stellina Saia
(Wakefield, MA) in doubles to go 6-3. Saia was an
all-conference selection for doubles. Amanda Carroll
(Tewksbury, MA) earned third-team honors at #3 singles.
Carroll totaled a 12-2 record in #3 singles.
Earlier this season, Stonehill won then its 11th straight match,
defeating Merrimack 7-2 on April 3. Lucin won both of her matches,
winning #2 singles 6-2, 6-4 and teaming with Saia for an 8-6
victory in #2 doubles.
Stonehill has won a school-record 19 matches and is 19-3 this
season. They completed their first perfect Northeast-10 season with
their first NE-10 regular season and tournament titles since 1992.
They have won 16 of their last 17 matches, with a 5-4 loss to
Queens on April 15 being the lone blemish.
