#22 Womens Soccer Falls in OT to Lowell in NE-10 Quarters

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women’s soccer
team, ranked 22nd nationally, outshot UMass Lowell 13-10 but was
upset by the visiting River Hawks 1-0 in overtime Sunday afternoon
at Warrior Field.
Grace Larsen scored with less than one minute remaining in the
first overtime as she fired a shot from just inside the box past a
diving Shannon Rowan for her third of the
year.
With the win, the River Hawks advance to the Northeast-10
Semifinals on Thursday afternoon against the winner of
second-ranked Saint Rose and seventh-ranked New Haven.
After a scoreless first half, the Warriors came out strong in the
second, getting an early corner kick and a point-blank shot from
Jessie DeGraan, that was stopped by Jamie Gillis.
Moments later, a shot off the left foot of Gabrielle
Gramprey was stopped with the left hand on a diving stop
by Gillis. Shortly thereafter, Nikki Abruzzese was
denied as Gillis dove to her right and just got a hand on it.
Gillis stopped seven shots in regulation, compared to three for
Rowan through 90 minutes.
The loss was Merrimack’s first at home this season
The Warriors, who entered Sunday’s game ranked third in the
east region, will await the NCAA Selection Show to see if they will
be among the six teams selected from the region. The Warriors
defeated the River Hawks last season in the NCAA Tournament before
losing to Saint Rose 2-1.
