Womens Soccer Moves into First Place with Win over Stonehill

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women’s soccer
team picked up its seventh win in eight matches Monday, defeating
Stonehill College 2-0 at Warrior Field.
Gabrielle Gramprey (Brockton, MA) scored both
goals, giving her 12 on the season, tied for second in the
conference.
The win puts the Warriors into a first-place tie with Saint Rose in
the Northeast-10 standings. Merrimack defeated Saint Rose 5-0
earlier this season, thus the Warriors have the tiebreaker over the
Golden Knights with four regular season games remaining.
For the second straight game, the Warriors struck in the
game’s first five minutes as Gramprey took a nifty feed from
Jessie DeGraan (Braintree, MA) and maneuvered
around her defender and the goaltender and buried it into the
vacated net for the goal.
Gramprey doubled Merrimack’s lead midway through the first
half as she stole the ball from a Skyhawk defender, dribbled around
another, and fired it past goaltender Marissa Bramwell for her 12th
of the season.
The Warriors controlled the ball for most of the match, outshooting
the Skyhawks 16-9. Shannon Rowan (Fair Haven, NJ)
picked up her fifth shutout of the year, stopping five shots in the
win.
Merrimack improves to 5-0 at home this season, with one regular
season home game left. The Warriors (9-2-2, 7-2-1 NE-10) are at
Southern New Hampshire Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
