NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women’s soccer
team blanked 18th ranked Saint Rose 5-0 Saturday night at Warrior
Field, earning some revenge after being knocked out of the NE-10
and NCAA Tournaments last season by the Golden Knights.
Merrimack started quickly as Gabrielle Gramprey (Brockton,
MA) fired in a shot off a Lindsey deMont
(Littleton, MA) corner kick for her eighth of the season
in the sixth minute. The Warriors doubled their lead as
Kara Hennigan (Pawtucket, RI) tallied her fourth
of the year as she intercepted a pass from the Golden Knight
goaltender and buried it to the bottom left corner at 28:57.
In the second half, Jesse DeGraan (Braintree, MA)
added an insurance marker as she headed home a rebound for her
second of the season. Gramprey capped off the scoring with a
breakaway tally, her second of the game. DeMont netted her second
with time winding down on a long lob from just near the corner
flag.
Shannon Rowan (Fair Haven, NJ) stopped five shots
for the shut out victory.
The 5-0 loss was Saint Rose’s worst defeat since November 3,
2004 when Franklin Pierce defeated the Golden Knights 5-0 in the
Northeast-10 Semifinals.
Merrimack (5-2-2, 3-2-1 NE-10) is at Saint Michael’s
Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
