Women’s Soccer Settles for 1-1 Tie with Lowell

Boxscore

LOWELL, MA - The Merrimack women's soccer team drilled two posts in the first overtime but could not score the decisive tally and had to settle for a 1-1 tie with UMass Lowell Tuesday night in the Warriors' conference opener.

After the two teams traded goals in regulation, Gabrielle Gramprey (Brockton, MA) and Nikki Abruzzese (Morris Plains, NJ) each fired shots off the post in the 97th and 98th minute respectively.

Merrimack was outshot 24-15 in the game and stayed in it behind 15 saves from Shannon Rowan (Fair Haven, NJ).

In a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament first round matchup, a game won by Merrimack 1-0, the Riverhawks struck first, as Maddy Bissaillon gathered a loose ball and fired a shot to the top right corner of the net from the top of the box at 31:56 for her first of the season.

The Warriors responded just 7:07 into the second half when Gramprey evened the score executing a give-and-go with Kerri Domohowski (Saugus, MA) for her second of the year.

Gramprey posted a team-high four shots, while Bissaillon led UML with five.

The Warriors (2-0-2, 0-0-1 NE-10) end their five-game road trip at Saint Anselm on Saturday at 2 p.m.
