Women's Basketball to Host 2nd Annual Food Drive

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – On Sunday, November 1, the Merrimack
women’s basketball preseason opener against Saint
Mary’s University (Nova Scotia) will double as an exhibition
contest (2:00pm) and food drive to benefit the Lazarus
House of Lawrence.
The 2nd Annual preseason food drive put on by Merrimack is a
collaborative effort with Merrimack College’s Campus
Ministry. Rather than charging admission, the women’s
basketball team is asking that fans donate non-perishable food
items that will be passed along to the Lazarus House.
The Lazarus House helps to prevent homelessness by
providing food orders for those who cannot afford to pay both the
rent and buy food. In addition, the Lazarus House assigns
advocates who assist individuals with a tailored plan for
reconstructing their lives to become active and productive members
of the community.

Under Head Coach Helen Williams, the Warriors
will take on Saint Mary’s University from Halifax, Nova
Scotia before starting the 2009-10 season on the road at Dowling
College on November 15 at 4:00pm.
Senior captain Casey Miller (Anchorage, AK) is
Merrimack’s top returning scorer at 12.5 points per game,
while sophomore Gennifer Roy (Granby, MA) joins
Miller in the backcourt following a freshman year that she made
nearly 36-percent from beyond the arc.
The Warriors Northeast-10 Conference schedule kicks off on
November 18 when the Falcons of Bentley University come to Volpe
Gym at 5:30pm.
