Shannon Named to All-Conference Second Team; Warriors Take on Pace Sunday


SOUTH EASTON, MA – Senior captain Amanda Shannon (North Andover, MA) was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference second team Friday.

Shannon, who ranks fourth in school history in scoring, averages 17.3 points this season, second in the conference while playing a league-high 38.1 minutes per game. She has reached double-figures in scoring in 23 of 27 games this season, including a season-high 29 in a 78-70 win at Saint Rose on February 18.

This is the second straight season she was named to the All-Conference team.

Franklin Pierce University junior Johanah Leedham was selected as the 2008-2009 Northeast-10 Basketball Player of the Year for the second straight season as voted by the conference’s 15 head coaches. Leedham’s sister, Jennifer, was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while their coach Mark Swasey earned Coach of the Year honors. Pace’s Brittany Shields was named the Freshman of the Year.

Merrimack (9-18, 8-14 NE-10) takes on fifth-ranked Pace in the first-round of the Northeast-10 Tournament Sunday in Pleasantville, NJ at 2 p.m. The winner takes on fourth-seed American International in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

The Warriors lost both matchups with the Setters this season, losing 70-52 at the Volpe Gym on January 25 and 72-64 on February 14 at Pace.
