Women’s Basketball Edged by Seattle Pacific 58-56

SEATTLE, WA – Four Warriors were in double figures but the Merrimack women’s basketball team was edged by Seattle Pacific University 58-56 Friday afternoon.

The Warriors led for most of the second half and by as much as five after Tiffany Colon drained a jumper with 10:46 to play. But Seattle Pacific used a 17-7 run over the next eight minutes to take a 56-49 lead with 1:45 to play. Merrimack cut the lead to three following a jumper and foul shot from Amanda Shannon but the lead jumped back to five following two free throws from Jordan Harazin. Shannon hit a three with three seconds left, but time ran out on the Warriors’ comeback bid.

Shannon led the Warriors with 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting, while Colon added 13 points and seven boards. Genn Roy and Casey Miller tallied 11 points each.

Seattle Pacific outscored the Warriors 34-12 in the paint and outrebounded them 39-29. Merrimack converted 20 points off turnovers, compared to 15 from Seattle Pacific.

Merrimack (2-7) hosts rival Bentley Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. at the Volpe Gym.
