Womens Basketball Falls to #23 Franklin Pierce 76-44

RINDGE, NH - The Merrimack women’s basketball team
concluded its pre-holiday schedule Monday with a 76-44 loss to 23rd
ranked Franklin Pierce.
The game was supposed to feature a matchup of the
conference’s two top scorers in Merrimack’s
Amanda Shannon (North Andover, MA) and Franklin
Pierce’s Johannah Leedham, but Shannon was limited to a
season-low six points while Leedham did not play.
Merrimack shot 50% in the first half and trailed by eight, 36-28 at
the half, but the Ravens limited the Warriors to just 23% shooting
from the field in the final 20 minutes on 6-of-26 shooting and
outscored them 40-16.
Freshman Hannah DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, NC)
tallied 11 points and eight rebounds while Casey Miller
(Fairbanks, AK) also finished with 11 but committed eight
turnovers. Sarah Benischek (Shrub Oak, NY) added
nine points off the bench in 24 minutes.
Franklin Pierce scored 39 points off 26 Merrimack turnovers as the
Ravens improved to 5-3 (4-3 NE-10) on the season. Tori Ahrens led
the way with 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Warriors (2-6 1-4 NE-10) travel to Washington to face Western
Washington on December 31 at 8 p.m. and Seattle Pacific on January
2 at 5 p.m. Merrimack returns home on January 6 to face rival
Bentley University at 5:30 p.m.
