Womens Basketball Falls to Bellarmine in Courtyard by Marriott Championship

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Bellarmine University defeated the
Merrimack women’s basketball team 85-63 Saturday afternoon to
claim the Courtyard by Marriott Championship at the Volpe Gym.
Amanda Shannon (North Andover, MA) posted a
game-high 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting in the loss.
Bellarmine used a 13-0 run to start the second half to take a 45-22
lead and would cruise from there to the victory.
Casey Miller (Fairbanks, AK) added 10 points while
Hannah DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, NC) grabbed 10
rebounds.
Four Bellarmine players posted double-figures, led by 18 points
from Trisha Bennett. The Knights shot 64% from the field in the
second half and 60% from behind the arc, tallying 53 second-half
points.
The Warriors trailed 32-22 at half, with Shannon tallying 13 of her
team’s 22 points. They shot just seven-of-30 in the first 20
minutes.
In the consolation game, Dowling defeated Flagler to claim third
place. Bellarmine’s Shauna Nichols was the Tournament MVP,
while her teammate Taylor Kopple also made the all-tournament team.
Shannon earned the honor from Merrimack, while Dowling’s
Simona Bartkova and Flagler’s Chanti Beckett joined them on
the squad.
Merrimack (1-3, 0-1 NE-10) returns to the court Monday when they
host Southern New Hampshire at 5:30 p.m.
