Womens Basketball Picked 14th in Northeast-10 Preseason Poll

SOUTH EASTON, MA – The Merrimack women’s basketball
team was picked to finish 14th in the Northeast-10 Conference
preseason poll announced Thursday.

The Warriors return Northeast-10 All-Conference honoree and this
year’s captain Amanda Shannon (North Andover,
MA). Shannon is 117 points shy of becoming the 16th player
in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Junior
Casey Miller (Fairbanks, AK), who was second in
scoring last season with 9.0 points-per-game, returns for her
junior season. The Warriors also welcome in five newcomers, two of
them freshmen, headlined by junior transfer Megan Harbaugh
(Kettering, OH).
Merrimack finished 9-19 in 2007-08, 5-17 in conference under head
coach Helen Williams, who returns for her third
season. Last season featured a four-game winning streak highlighted
by wins over Bentley and American International.
Franklin Pierce, who advanced to the Elite Eight last season, was
picked to finish first, garnering 222 total votes and 12
first-place votes. Stonehill captured the remaining three
first-place votes and 211 overall. Rounding out the top six are
Bentley, Assumption, Saint Rose and Le Moyne.
The Warriors will open the season on November 15 at Adelphi at 1
p.m. before returning home to face Assumption on November 19 at
5:30 p.m.
