#13 Stonehill Downs Women's Hoops 67-42

NORTH ANDOVER, MA. – Thirteenth-ranked Stonehill took charge with a 28-6 second-half run, leading the Skyhawks to a 67-42 victory over the Warriors Thursday night at the Volpe Gym in a Northeast-10 Conference game.

Merrimack started strong and found itself deadlocked at 23 with the Skyhawks, after a 9-2 run, capped off with a jumper from Amanda Shannon (North Andover, MA). Stonehill finished the half on an 11-2 run, taking a 34-25 halftime lead and took control with the 28-6 run in the second half, immediately after Merrimack cut the lead to two at 34-32 with a jumper from Kara Borelli (Westbrook, ME).

The Warriors shot just 23% from the field in the second half, making just seven field goals, to 58% on 14-of-24 shooting for Stonehill.

The Skyhawks doubled up the Warriors in the paint, outscoring the hosts 32-16, and 16-4 in the second half.

Borelli was the lone Warrior who reached double-digits in points, as she tallied 10, while playing the final 11 minutes with four fouls. Shannon added nine points and eight boards but struggled shooting (4-of-19). Takeya Faison (Lynn, MA) tallied eight points, seven boards, and three steals. The Warriors made just two three-pointers, shooting two-for-18 from behind the arc.

Megan Methven and Kelsey Simonds each posted 13 points, while Simonds added nine rebounds and two blocks. Erika Stupinski scored 10 points and dished out six assists as Stonehill improved to 13-2 (9-1 NE-10) on the season.

Merrimack (4-12, 0-10 NE-10) hosts the College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Volpe Gym.
