Softball Takes on Southern NH Wednesday at 4 p.m. in NE-10 First Round Play

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack softball team will host
Southern New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the opening
round of the Northeast-10 Tournament.
The Warriors (25-17, 18-10 NE-10) finished fourth in the
Northeast-10 after regular season play thus earning a first-round
home game. The Penmen finished fifth.
The winner of Wednesday’s game advances to this
weekend’s double elimination four-team tournament that will
be hosted by the highest remaining seed. Le Moyne is the top seed
in the tournament and will host the weekend’s games if the
Dolphins defeat Assumption.
Merrimack split with the Penmen last Friday, losing the first game
3-1 before winning the second 7-6. In the first game, Jill
Gagnon (Manchester, NH) took a no-hitter into the sixth
before giving up a single to Karissa Bettencourt. Following her,
the next four batters reached due to an error on a bunt, a
fielder's choice, and two walks from Gagnon. The Penmen were able
to capitalize on three of those runners to put up their only three
runs of the game. Up until the sixth inning Gagnon had only allowed
four base runners.
After allowing four first-inning runs in game two, the Warriors
rallied back with three runs in each of the first two innings
before scoring the game-winning run in the sixth. Atlee
Cahill (Gloucester, MA) earned the win with five innings
in relief.
