Warrior Men Place Fourth at Amherst Invitational

AMHERST, MA - The Merrimack College men's cross country team finished fourth at the 2007 Amherst Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Warriors finished with 108 points, which placed them behind UMass Amherst (18 points), UMass Lowell (62 points), and Bryant (97 points). Assumption placed fifth (113 points), followed by St. Anselm (155 points) and Wheaton (182 points).

Florian Reichert - a freelance runner - won the 5K race with a time of 16:33.8, followed by Will Yocum of UMass Amherst with a time of 16:34.1.

Freshman Nicholas Santoro (Shrewsbury, MA) posted the best finish amongst Merrimack runners, finishing in seventh place with a time of 16:50.9. Junior Jefferson Welch (Haverhill, MA) was next for the Warriors in 10th place with a time of 17:07.6, followed by sophomore Michael Sweeney (Chelmsford, MA) in 29th place with a time of 17:46.7, senior John Kelley (Mansfield, MA) in 45th place with a time of 18:43.1, sophomore Christopher Stanwyck (Chelmsford, MA) in 51st place with a time of 19:08.8, freshman Brendan Mormile (West Haven, CT) in 63rd place with a time of 19:54.2, and senior Patrick Van Schaick (Glens Falls, NY) in 65th place with a time of 20:04.5.

The Warriors return to action on Saturday when they compete in the Saint Anselm Invitational.
