Men's Soccer Tops Queens in Doubletree Classic

COLCHESTER, VT - The Merrimack College men's soccer team (1-0-0) opened their 2009 season with a 1-0 win over Queens College, thanks to an early second half goal from senior captain Kyle Lortie (Middleboro, MA).

Fellow senior co-captain, Doug Carvalho (New Bedford, MA) tallied six saves on the afternoon to record the shut-out, while sophomore Evan Burokas (Auburn, MA) registered an assist on Merrimack's lone goal.

Head coach Tony Martone said of the victory, "we just played hard and had some good stretches where we maintained good possession. We're a young team and we're still trying to fit in with each other, but I feel that we beat a quality opponent today."

The Warriors return to action on Saturday morning versus Concordia University (CAN) at 10:00 EST.
