Gomes, Pedra Lead #13 Merrimack to 1-0 Win

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Eric Gomes’ (Stoughton,
MA) second-half header gave Merrimack, ranked 13th in the
nation and second in the east region, the 1-0 victory over Saint
Michael’s College Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Warriors broke through in the 60th minute as Gomes headed in a
Wayne Sygrove (Yorkshire, England) corner for his
second of the season.
Saint Michael’s had a chance to tie in the 87th minute as
they were awarded a penalty kick after a forward was fouled in the
box, but Rob Pedra (South Hamilton, MA) stopped
Jared Berry, sprawling to his left for the diving stop.
Pedra stopped four shots in net for his fourth straight clean
sheet. The senior has not allowed a goal in his last 424 minutes in
goal.
The teams played to a scoreless first half, highlighted by a cross
bar off the foot of Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON).
Merrimack outshot the Purple Knights 7-1 in the first 45
minutes.
Merrimack (7-1-2, 4-1-1 NE-10) visits Le Moyne College on Saturday
at 1 p.m. for a big conference matchup. The Warriors eliminated the
Dolphins in the Northeast-10 Tournament last season in overtime.
Merrimack has just two regular season home matches remaining.
