Braithwaite Recipient of Prestigious Academic Scholarship

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Goaltender Andrew Braithwaite
(Kingston, Ontario) was recently award a $2,000
scholarship from the Boston Chapter of Financial Executives
International.
Braithwaite, who received the award for the Highest Male Athlete
Grade-Point-Average at Merrimack for the second straight year,
maintains a 3.98 GPA as he concludes his junior year.
A business major, Braithwaite is one of the best students in the
history of Merrimack athletics.
As a freshman, he was named the Hockey East Co-Scholar Athlete of
the Year, along with his teammate Ryan Sullivan. As a sophomore, he
was named to the Hockey East All-Academic team for the second
straight year and was the Merrimack Male Scholar Athlete of the
Year. Braithwaite, who also received the Highest Male GPA award as
a sophomore, seized the starting goaltending job midway through the
2007-08 season and earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors
three times, while ranking second in Hockey East in goals-against
and save percentage. As a junior, he was named the Hockey East
Defensive Player of the Week on November 10 after stopping 34 shots
in a 3-1 win over UMass.
The 2008-09 Hockey East All-Academic team will be released in June.
