Joe Cannata Named Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

WAKEFIELD, MA – Freshman goaltender Joe Cannata (Wakefield, MA) was named the Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

Cannata stopped 70 of 72 shots in two games while posting a 0.96 goals-against, leading Merrimack to a 1-0-1 weekend record against Providence College.

This is the fourth time Cannata has received a weekly honor this season from Hockey East and the second straight week. He was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week last week, after stopping 35 shots in a 3-2 win over #5 Vermont.

The Warriors (8-18-4, 4-16-3 HEA) host the University of New Hampshire Friday night at 7 p.m. at Lawler Arena. The teams will rematch Saturday night at the Whittemore Center at 7:30 p.m. with the game being televised by NESN.
