Darren Duncan Named First Team All-Region by Daktronics

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Darren Duncan (Briarwood, NY) was named to the first team All-East Region squad by Daktronics Wednesday.

Duncan is joined on the first team by juniors Laurence Ekperigin from Le Moyne, who was the Regional Player of the Year, and Jason Westrol of Bentley. Also on the first team are C.W. Post’s Jonathan Schmidt and Bridgeport’s Teairez Stennis.

All five first-team members will be placed on the national ballot with Division II Sports Information Directors selecting first, second, and third-team All-America honorees.

A finalist for the Bob Cousy award as the country’s top point guard, Duncan leads the Northeast-10 in scoring (19.2), assists (7.6), free throws attempted (266) and free throws made (212). He is also tied for the league lead in steals (2.2) and assists-turnover ratio (2.0); and stands third in free throw percentage (79.7). Duncan, the 2006-07 NE-10 Freshman of the Year and a two-time first-team All-Conference pick, is second in the nation in assists and 35th in scoring and steals.

Merrimack, seeded sixth in the east region, takes on third-ranked Lowell Saturday at noon in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Brookville, New York.
