Darren Duncan Named First Team All-Region by Daktronics

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Darren Duncan (Briarwood,
NY) was named to the first team All-East Region squad by
Daktronics Wednesday.
Duncan is joined on the first team by juniors Laurence Ekperigin
from Le Moyne, who was the Regional Player of the Year, and Jason
Westrol of Bentley. Also on the first team are C.W. Post’s
Jonathan Schmidt and Bridgeport’s Teairez Stennis.
All five first-team members will be placed on the national ballot
with Division II Sports Information Directors selecting first,
second, and third-team All-America honorees.
A finalist for the Bob Cousy award as the country’s top
point guard, Duncan leads the Northeast-10 in scoring (19.2),
assists (7.6), free throws attempted (266) and free throws made
(212). He is also tied for the league lead in steals (2.2) and
assists-turnover ratio (2.0); and stands third in free throw
percentage (79.7). Duncan, the 2006-07 NE-10 Freshman of the Year
and a two-time first-team All-Conference pick, is second in the
nation in assists and 35th in scoring and steals.
Merrimack, seeded sixth in the east region, takes on third-ranked
Lowell Saturday at noon in the first round of the NCAA tournament
in Brookville, New York.
