Duncan, Mency, Mack Named to Northeast-10 All-Conference Team
SOUTH EASTON, MA – Darren Duncan (Briarwood, NY),
Dee Mency (Hagerstown, MD) and Wayne Mack
(Paterson, NJ) each earned Northeast-10 All-Conference
honors Friday.
For the second straight year, Duncan, who leads the conference in
scoring, assists, and free throws, was a first-team selection. The
junior captain, who reached the 1,000 point milestone earlier this
season and set the school record for free throws in a season and
career, is just one of two point guards in Division II to be a
finalist for the prestigious Bob Cousy award. Duncan was the NE-10
Freshman of the Year in 2006-07.
Mency, a second-team selection, is eighth in scoring in the
conference, averaging 16.5 points-per-game and ranks fifth in
three-pointers. Just 41 points shy of 1,000 career, despite being a
sophomore, he was the NE-10 Freshman of the Year in 2007-08.
Mack, who was named to the All-Rookie team, is averaging 10.6
points per game in 26 games this season. He has reached
double-figures in 14 games this season, including a career-high 21
points against Stonehill on January 24.
Le Moyne’s Laurence Ekperigin, who ranks second in scoring
(to Duncan) and first in rebounds in the conference, was named the
NE-10 Player of the Year. Lowell’s Max Kernan earned
Defensive Player of the Year honors, while his teammate, Kyle
Caiola, earned Freshman of the Year honors. The River Hawks coach,
and former Warriors assistant coach and player, Greg Herenda,
earned Coach of the Year honors in his first season at Lowell.
The Warriors (20-7, 16-6 NE-10) earned a first-round bye in the
Northeast-10 Tournament as they finished fourth in the regular
season standings. They will host the winner of #5 Assumption/#12
Pace on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Volpe Gym in the
quarterfinals. Merrimack is ranked fifth in the east regional
rankings and has its second-straight NCAA appearance in its sights.
