Mens Basketball Remains Atop Conference with 73-64 Win over Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, NH – The Merrimack men’s basketball team
used a 25-1 run to start the second half to pull away from the
Saint Anselm Hawks 73-64 Wednesday night in a big conference
matchup.
Merrimack remains tied for first place with Stonehill College in
the Northeast-10 with an 8-2 record.
The Warriors, leading by six at halftime, put the game away right
out of the gate in the second as a three from Darren Duncan
(Briarwood, NY) extended the lead to 40-26, while another
three, this one from Roland Davis (Deer Park, NY),
gave the Warriors the 50-27 lead and put the Hawks away for
good.
Merrimack surrendered 11 offensive first-half rebounds but took a
32-26 lead into halftime behind a defense that limited the Hawks to
just 24.4% shooting.
Duncan posted a team-best 15 points in just 25 minutes and added
five assists and five boards. Wayne Mack (Paterson,
NJ) and Dee Mency (Hagerstown, MD) scored
13 each, while Mency tallied a team-high three three-pointers and
eight rebounds. Davis scored 10 off the bench.
Hakeem Williams scored a team-high 15 off the bench to lead the
Hawks who fell to 6-4 in the conference.
The Warriors (12-3, 8-2 NE-10) continue their two-game road trip
at Southern Connecticut State University Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
