Daugherty is Division II Rookie of the Week

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – For the third consecutive week, a
Merrimack field hockey freshman has been named the Division II
Rookie of the Week by Womensfieldhockey.com. This time,
April Daugherty (Lincoln, RI) was honored for her
five-goal, four-assist week.
Freshman Jen Otis (Penacook, NH) had been the
previous back-to-back winner of the award (Sep. 14 & 21).

Helping #9 Merrimack (8-5, 3-1 NE-10) to a 2-1 week, the
team’s only loss came to #5 UMass-Lowell, 2-1 on Tuesday
afternoon. Later in the week, Daugherty fueled her team to a pair
of 5-3 wins over Southern Connecticut and American International.
With the wins, Merrimack swept the season series against both
Southern Connecticut and American International.
As of Tuesday, Daugherty led all conference players in points (32)
and assists (12) through 13 games. She also ranks fourth in the
Northeast-10 in goals (10) while leading all freshmen in that
category.
The Warriors look to improve upon their No. 9 National Ranking in
the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll against
Assumption on Saturday, October 3 in Worcester at 4:00 PM.
