Andrew Jackson Named AFCA First-Team All-American

WACO, TX – Senior defensive back Andrew Jackson (New Britain, CT) culminated a stellar four-year collegiate career by becoming the first Merrimack football player to earn first-team All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association.

Jackson, who was named to the team as a defensive back, is the only player on the AFCA first-team from the Northeast-10 Conference.

A Preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services as a kick returner, Jackson recorded 58 tackles, five interceptions and 10 pass breakups in 2008. He became the first player in school history to score a touchdown on offense, defense and special teams in a career and holds the school record with 17 interceptions. Jackson was also named to the Northeast-10 Conference first team, second team all-region by Daktronics, and to the 2008 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team.

He finishes his career as a four-time Northeast-10 first-team All-Conference selection and a four-time All-New England selection. Jackson, who was a D2Football.com All-American honorable mention in 2005, tallied eight career touchdowns on special teams.

The Warriors finished the season 6-4 and 4-3 in the Northeast-10, good enough for third place.
