Twelve Football Players Named to All-Conference Teams


NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Twelve football players were named to All-Conference and All-Rookie teams on Wednesday representing 14 overall selections, including six first-team honorees.

Jeremiah Watts (Clovis, CA), David Bellmont (Melrose, MA), Jacob Bradley (Dorchester, MA), Andrew Jackson (New Britain, CT), and Tony Johnson (Lynn, MA) were named to the first team.

Watts tallied 72 receptions for 924 yards and nine touchdowns, while ranking tied for eighth in the nation with 7.1 receptions per game. His 92.5 receiving yards per game rank fourth nationally.

Bellmont and Bradley were part of an offensive line that allowed just 15 sacks this season, tied for fewest in the conference.

Jackson, a first-team selection as a return specialist and defensive back, returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns this season. He totaled five interceptions, second on the team, and was the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Week after getting two picks against Bryant. A Preseason All-American and a four-time all-conference selection, he made six catches as a wide out and also rushed for a 39-yard touchdown against American International.

Johnson leads the nation with 1.25 sacks per game and is fourth overall, first in the conference, with 11.5 sacks. He is a two-time NE-10 Freshman of the Week honoree.

Richard Johnson (Brockton, MA), Adam Burt (Burlington, MA), Wilson Perjuste (Lynn, MA), Shane Brown (Wakefield, MA), and Mike O’Brien (Marlboro, MA) were second-team selections.

Johnson, aided by Burt and the offensive line, led the Warriors with 601 rushing yards, fifth in the conference and six touchdowns. Perjuste registered 29 tackles and two sacks while Brown was third on the team with 76 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble. O’Brien, a two-time NE-10 Defensive Player of the Week, set the school record with six interceptions in a season, while adding 49 tackles.

Four Warriors, James Suozzo (Everett, MA), Dylan Register (Wayland, MA), Quivari Jackson (Lynn, MA) and Tony Johnson earned all-rookie honors.

Starting the final six games of the season, Suozzo threw for 13 touchdowns, averaging 261.5 passing yards per game, while rushing for another four scores and averaging 65 yards per game on the ground. He was the NE-10 Player and Freshman of the Week on October 6 and the Freshman of the Week on October 20. Seizing a starting spot on the line midway through the season, Register is the fourth offensive lineman to earn an all-conference selection, while Johnson is just one of two players in the conference to be a first team and a rookie team selection. Jackson was impressive late in the season, catching 20 passes, three for touchdowns, including seven catches for 587 yards and two touchdowns against Assumption in the season finale.

AIC’s Travis Poole earned Most Valuable Player honors, while Southern Connecticut’s John Wiechman and Jerome Pickney were the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year. The Owls’ Ed Peters was the Offensive Lineman of the Year, while AIC’s Jean Simeon earned the Defensive Lineman of the Year award. Mark Wilson from Saint Anselm was the Freshman of the Year, while AIC’s Art Wilkins and SCSU’s Rich Cavanaugh were the Co-Coaches of the Year.
