Leone and Johnson Earn Weekly Honors

NORTH ANDOVER, MA - Sophomore quarterback Kurt Leone (Marshfield, MA) was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week on Monday.

Making his first career start, Leone threw for 334 yards in the first half as Merrimack routed Husson College 42-7 Saturday. He finished 25 for 34 with 362 yards and four touchdowns. His 362 passing yards are the fourth highest in school history for passing yards in a single game.

Freshman linebacker Tony Johnson (Lynn, MA) was named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week. Johnson tallied seven tackles and three sacks in the win, finishing just one sack shy of the school record for a single game.

Merrimack (1-0) will head to former conference foe Bryant University, now a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Div. I-AA) for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
