Baseball Concludes Season with 6-3 Win over Pace

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack baseball team won its
20th game of the season Sunday, defeating Pace 6-3 on Senior Day at
Warrior Field.
The Warriors finish their season 20-27 overall, 11-19 in the
Northeast-10.
Before the game, Merrimack honored its four-member class of 2009,
Jeff Bercume, Mike Andre, Bob McCarthy, and
Mike Coppinger as part of Senior Day. Bercume
concludes his career with 230 hits, the most in school history.
In their final game, the four seniors combined for seven of
Merrimack’s nine hits, three from McCarthy and two from
Andre.
Merrimack picked up a pair of runs in the first on an RBI
groundout from Matt Hogan and on a Pace fielding
error that scored Bercume.
They added three more in the fourth as Bob McCarthy reached on a
fielder’s choice which scored Andre. PJ
Farnham then followed with an RBI groundout to plate
Mike Dooling, while Brendan
Pyburn brought home the fifth run of the game with a
sacrifice fly to score Andrew Johnson. Bercume
made it 6-1 in the seventh as the center fielder led off the
seventh with a triple and scored on a wild pitch.
Chris Pinette (4-6) picked up his second win in
his second straight start, striking out four while scattering eight
hits over eight innings. Ryan McNeil concluded the
season with his 67th inning of the season in his 23rd appearance.
The junior finishes with six wins, three complete games and four
saves.
The Warriors finished the season with four wins in their final six
games, while taking two of three in the series with the Setters.
