Baseball Splits with Pace; Senior Day is Sunday

PLEASANTVILLE, NJ – The Merrimack baseball team concluded
its road schedule with a doubleheader split with Pace Saturday
afternoon, losing the first game 10-5, before winning the second
8-6.
The Setters put up three in the first inning, with the big hit a
two-run blast from Joe Cotone. The Warriors rallied with single
runs in the second, fourth and fifth to tie the game at three,
before Setters regained the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the
fifth.
In the sixth, the visitors picked up a pair of unearned runs,
getting two runs on just two hits, while taking advantage of a big
fielding error. But Pace recovered, scoring three in the sixth on a
pair of two-out run-scoring singles, while adding two in the
seventh and one in the eighth to put the game away.
James Haughney (1-6) allowed seven runs in six
innings, while taking the loss for the Warriors.
Brendan Pyburn, PJ Farhnam, Mike Coppinger, Mike
Andre, and Mike Dooling each had two-hit
performances for the Warriors.
In his final start of the season, lefty Dylan
Ellis (5-3) hurled a complete-game, scattering 12 hits in
the win.
The Warriors put up one in the first, on a Matt
Hogan RBI single and three in the second, with Bercume
driving in two runs with an RBI single. They stretched the lead to
8-1 after seven innings, before the Setters posted a five-spot in
the eighth inning, but Ellis retired the side in order in the ninth
to earn the win.
Farnham picked up a pair of RBIs, including a seventh-inning
single, while Pyburn and Dooling also had RBIs.
Merrimack (19-27, 10-19 NE-10) concludes its season Sunday at 1
p.m. at home against Pace University with Senior Day festivities
beginning at 12:40 p.m.
