Baseball Jumped on by New Haven 18-4

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – New Haven scored 15 runs in the first
five innings in an 18-4 victory over the Merrimack baseball team
Thursday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Chargers jumped on the Warriors early, scoring four runs in
each of the second and third innings, before really breaking it
open with seven in the fifth. The Warriors committed seven early
errors, resulting in four unearned runs. Tom Rombilus led the way
with three hits and four RBIs in the first five innings, while Ryan
Brockett drove in three early runs.
The Warriors added a pair of runs in the third, with the latter on
an RBI single from Brendan Pyburn. Pyburn, who
extended his hitting streak to 11 games, added a sacrifice fly in
the seventh, scoring Ray Walker with his second
RBI of the game. Jeff Bercume drove in his 43rd
run of the season with a two-out RBI knock, also in the seventh, to
score PJ Farnham with his second run of the
day.
Merrimack starter Mike Riley (1-4) was chased
after allowing four runs and walking three in two innings.
Andrew Teahan threw the final 4.2 innings,
allowing three runs.
T.J. Phalen (4-5) earned the win for the Chargers, taking advantage
of some generous run support, whiling striking out five in seven
innings.
Merrimack (17-26, 8-18 NE-10) continues its three-game home stand
against American International Friday at 3:30 p.m.
