Dennis Fontaine begins his 11th year as part of the athletic
training staff at Merrimack. He joined the staff as an assistant
athletic trainer in 1999 and was promoted to head athletic trainer
in July, 2001.
In his current position, Fontaine is responsible for overseeing
all aspects of the athletic training room at Merrimack, including
supervision of the prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of all
athletic injuries.
In addition to providing athletic training coverage for home and
away contests, Fontaine is directly responsible for supervising the
athletic training students. He is also a lecturer and clinical
coordinator in the Merrimack Sports Medicine program.
Prior to his current position at Merrimack, Fontaine served as the
head athletic trainer at Peters Township High School in McMurray,
PA. While there, he was responsible for the health care needs of
student-athletes on 22 varsity teams.
Before his time in Pennsylvania, Fontaine was an assistant
athletic trainer at the University of New England. He began his
athletic training career as an intern with the Portland Pirates of
the American Hockey League.
Fontaine graduated from the University of New England in 1997. He
earned his Masters of Science Degree in Athletic Training at
California University of Pennsylvania. He is a licensed athletic
trainer in Massachusetts and certified by the National Athletic
Trainers Association.
