Athletic Department Gears Up for Push-Up Showdown on Tuesday

Sponsored by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Merrimack Athletic Department will host the inaugural Push-Up Showdown at halftime of the men’s basketball game against New Haven on Tuesday with all proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Each sport, with the exception of men’s and women’s basketball, will delegate four student-athletes who will do as many push-ups as they can in a one minute time period. Two representatives from each team will do as many push-ups as possible for one minute, while the other two reps will count the number of push-ups. Then, the contestants will switch places so that the other two representatives can do as many push-ups as possible in one minute.

The male and female student-athlete who does the most push-ups will each win a $50 gift card to General Nutrition Center, while the male and female team that does the most push-ups will each win a championship belt. The team that raises the most money wins a pizza party courtesy of the Merrimack Athletic Department. All contestants will get a Merrimack t-shirt for participating.

Each contestant is required to find at least five sponsors who will make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation on a per push-up basis. Sponsors can also opt to donate a flat rate to the contestant.
